We just love summer. It’s all about sun, vacations, and of course, casting news. Our favorite TV shows are getting ready for the new season and that usually means stacking up on a new set of recurring characters.
In the case of everyone’s favorite superhero show, Arrow, some of the fresh (and not-so-fresh) face have already been announced: Rick Gonzales will join season five as the DC Comics character Wild Dog, Josh Segarra heads to Star City as DC’s Vigilante, and Madison McLaughlin will reprise her role as Evelyn Sharp. Never a dull day for Team Arrow.
And apparently there is room for yet another addition to the roster. Tyler Ritter will be joining the fifth season of Arrow as Detective Malone. “Ritter will play Detective Malone, a new addition to the Star City Police Department following Captain Lance’s (Paul Blackthorne) departure from the squad last season”, reports THR. Ritter has previously starred in The McCarthys as Ronny McCarthy, and appeared as a guest star on shows like Modern Family or Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
At the end of season four Quentin Lance and the SCPD decided to go separate ways, and it seemed like the former Captain became more and more an honorary member of Team Arrow. He surely spent a lot of time down with them at the Arrow cave.
After the summer it seems like he has successfully been replaced. So who is Detective Malone? Is he pro or anti-vigilante? We’d assume the latter. With the Green Arrow continuing to fight injustice and a couple of other (masked?) vigilantes hitting the streets, SCPD would be in need of someone protecting the law.
Does that mean we will be seeing less of Quentin as a result? THR is quick to state that “Blackthorne is still a series regular, so expect to see him continue to play a major part in the story”. Hopefully that means that Quentin is ready to spend some more time in the foundry, maybe even go as far as assist Oliver and Felicity a bit while Thea and Diggle are still MIA.
