Only one more month until the most wonderful time of the year. And no, we’re not talking about Christmas. We’re talking about San Diego Comic Con, a magical week of geeky goodness starting July 20th. If you’re one of the lucky people who will be attending the spectacle, get ready for a whole lot of fun and excitement.
One of the things most fans are looking forward to are SDCC’s panels. Whether you want to get the latest scoop on your favorite tv-show or movie or just see some stars, Comic Con International has it all. Most major studios will attend the convention and they are bringing their finest actors and actresses to the stage.
This year SDCC seems to be dominated by one movie in particular: Suicide Squad. Warner Bros is back with a big movies panel which will undoubtedly feature the cast and creative crew of the next upcoming DC Comics movie adaptation. With the movie scheduled for release just two weeks later we are surely in for a treat – autograph opportunities included.
However, if you’re not just looking to sprint from one panel to the next, there is a lot of Suicide Squad stuff for you to do outside of the halls of San Diego’s Convention Center. You will be able to catch the cast on the busiest day of the convention, as they’re invited for a little chat with Conan O’Brien: “DC Entertainment has revealed that the cast will also take part in a special taping of Conan O’Brien’s TBS show on Saturday, July 23, to be broadcast later that evening”, so TheHollywoodReporter.
But wait, there’s more. The Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp District is one of the hottest places to be during Comic Con weekend. Not just because of the solid chance to bump into your favorite celebrities every once in a while, but because they’ll bring the Suicide Squad movie to life this year. Parts of the hotel “will be transformed into the Belle Reve Penitentiary, the fictional prison that houses the supervillains who make up the Squad, featuring another Harley Quinn tattoo parlor and a virtual reality experience that allows fans to fight alongside the Squad themselves in a scene from the movie”. Better get in line right about now.
DC could not have gone with a smarter marketing strategy. San Diego Comic Con generates tremendous buzz not just among fans but also among industry professionals. There is no better place on earth to promote a comic book adaptation. If you spot any of us in line for the Belle Reve Penitentiary, come say hi!
