Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows dropped today.
In addition to seeing the Turtles along with April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and Casey Jones (Stephen Amell), Brian Tee has taken over the role as the menacing Shredder.
When Shredder shows up if a Turtles film, then you know things are about to get super real. Shredder has always been a villain that sent a bit of a shiver down my spine, even in the goofier properties of the franchise.
Tee has a tendency to be cast in villainous roles. The actor actually has an eye on a hero role that he would like to play.
Last night, Marvel Studios revealed that they had the film rights to Namor the Submariner again. (Yay!)
So who will play the pompous king of the seas? Well Tee would like to be considered for the role.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tee talked a bit about the diversity problem within Hollywood and how he would like to see more Asian-American (actually people of color in general) actors at the helm of their own franchises.
He said: “I would love to see more of that. The time has come for us to allow those situations to happen.”
When pressed for a particular role, he came up with one: Namor.
“I grew up as a comic geek and the Submariner is one of my childhood’s fondest superheroes. I feel like I can play him! If there is one role, right now, that I would love to play, it would be Namor”, Tee said.
Technically, Namor is more of an anti-hero with alliances changing to suit his needs over everything else. Yet, I think Tee would be awesome in the role with his past villainous experiences able to not make Namor so traditionally heroic in portraying him.
