Star Trek celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and they are celebrating big. The third installment from the reboot, Star Trek Beyond, will premiere at this year’s San Diego Comic Con as part of the 50th anniversary festivities and both fans and cast are already sharing their Trek-love everywhere.
During last month’s Star Trek fan event, the cast of Beyond as well as other celebrities shared their love, respect, and memories of the franchise in 50-second videos. Now that the countdown to Beyond has officially begun, these short videos are being released on Twitter.
If you ever wondered if rock legend Slash was a geek then here’s your answer: yes, and he is a Trekkie as well – same with Fall Out Boy’s bassist Pete Wentz. The Star Trek family is a big one and I love it.

Star Trek Beyond will follow the crew of the USS Enterprise as they are attacked by a seemingly unstoppable wave of unknown aliens, who force them to abandon the ship. Now stranded on an unknown planet, the crew will come face to face with a dangerous enemy. Beyond will have Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin back as Kirk, Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Scott, Sulu, and Chekov respectively; Idris Elba plays the villain, Krall, and Sofia Boutella joins the action as Jaylah.
And because the celebration doesn’t stop there, Beyond will feature 50 new alien races. Yes, 50! Just when you thought you couldn’t add more information to your Star Trek fandom archive.
I love seeing the cast and celebrity fans sharing their Trek memories, but hey, non-famous Trekkies should share their 50 in 50 memories as well, don’t you think?
Star Trek Beyond will be released on July 22nd.
