Strutting out in a Darth Vadar dress, mask, and lightsaber plus a wig and a pair of killer black heels, John Barrowman made quite the entrance. As the Q&A ran on, he slowly changed into jeans, a shirt, and sneakers, which was fun to watch on its own as Barrowman both teased the audience and tried to not flash anyone. Innuendo and laughter are staples of any Barrowman panel, and they continued at Awesome Con.

Most questions were related to Barrowman’s best known characters, Captain Jack and Malcolm Merlyn. He had no trouble transitioning to the darker, less moral character of Malcolm because he sees the character as completely separate from Jack. Malcolm is loyal but also self-centered and manipulative while Jack is always working for the greater good. But will Malcolm be back on Arrow? “He’s not gonna die because he’s Malcolm fricken Merlin!”

But the questions also ran the gamut and Barrowman took them all in his customary effortless stride.

Weirdest scene he’s ever filmed? His first nude scene, which was on Torchwood with Gareth David-Lloyd.

Will we learn more about Captain Jack? Yes! In the Big Finish Audio Dramas, we’ll also learn Jack’s real name.

Ever embarrassed himself in front of a celebrity? He completely lost his cool when meeting George Lucas and spouted off Star Wars characters and then Wookie roared before running away. When he went back to apologize, Lucas assured him it wasn’t an unusual encounter and Wookie roared right back.

As usual, Barrowman was also a wealth of encouragement and advice. “Don’t take any crap from anyone who judges you,” he told a fan and the audience roared in agreement.

And simply because he loves his fans and loves what he does, Barrowman ended the Q&A by serenading the audience with “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” accompanied by his husband, Scott. No panel ending has ever been more perfect.
