After the wild success of both the Jump Street and Magic Mike franchises, Step Up star Channing Tatum is heading over to the small screen.

With his production company, Free Association, Tatum is backing a new action-comedy series, hilariously entitled Iron Fisting, reports EW.

This buddy cop series is inspired by such retro titles as Miami Vice, with one inspired twist: our two protagonists are striving to protect the Communism of 1980s Romania from the evils of Capitalism.

This bizarrely billed “80’s Romanian cop show” will follow two mismatched police partners on their exploits – check out the poster below for an idea of what it’ll be like!

Animal Practice creators Brian Gatewood and Alex Tanaka are the genius minds behind Iron Fisting, whilst SNL star and Documentary Now! co-creator Rhys Thomas is set to direct.

The series will be produced and fully financed by A24 Films, the same company that featured the Oscar-winning Room and Ex Machina … so we’re expecting great things!

With the Netflix series Marvel’s Iron Fist set to air within the next year, this could get pretty confusing for some viewers.

On a superhero note, Tatum’s production company is also involved with X-Men spin-off Gambit, which he will star in, if production ever gets off the ground. The film has hit many obstacles, and therefore has been pushed back indefinitely for the moment, but we’ve been assured it’s still definitely in the works.

Yet another spin-off includes Jump Street follow up Logan Lucky, starring Tatum alongside the likes of Daniel Craig and Katherine Heigl. Tatum’s a busy man! He’s also working on an as yet untitled musical comedy alongside 500 Days of Summer star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

We can’t wait to see Iron Fisting hit our screens. There’s no air date yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
