Summer giveth and summer taketh away. With the arrival of warm-ish weather and more sunshine also comes the departure of some of the best shows on primetime television. There are only a few more weeks to get your fix of your favorite shows until the season finales inevitably leave you with either a) a major cliffhanger, or b) major disappointment.
As a fun mid-week treat, I have taken the liberty to give you all a list of the season finales I am most looking forward to. I am also simultaneously dreading these, because then I am banished to Netflix and reruns. Not that I am complaining…
Here we go!
Who in the world is Alexander Kirk? That is, hopefully, the answer fans of NBC’s The Blacklist will get in the two-part season three finale of this hit drama. Season three completely turned the tables on everything fans thought they knew about the show. With main character Elizabeth Keen very possibly dead, will Red and the task force be able to avenge her death now that it is clear who put the hit on Liz? My biggest question is, is Kirk the end of the line – or is Katerina Rostova alive? Perhaps more importantly, is Masha?
The Blacklist season finale airs May 19 on NBC.
Previews for next week’s Chicago Fire season finale suggest that a major character death is imminent. Well, I don’t like that, but I do love the show. The NBC Chicago series are all pretty amazing on their own, and Fire is no exception. The last few weeks have prepared fans for the possibilities of impending motherhood, one of the house’s own facing health problems, and an uncertain political future for the lieutenant.
The Chicago Fire season finale airs on May 17 on NBC.
The Mindy Project
If you have read any of my season four recaps of The Mindy Project, you probably know that I was not crazy about the start of the season. Mindy and Danny’s super unhealthy relationship was/is a touchy subject for me, but Mindy is standing on her own two designer-shoe-clad feet again! Since they picked up from winter hiatus, the show has gotten better with each episode. Showrunner Mindy Kaling tends to leave fans with a cliffhanger during finales so I look forward to this one coming up.
The Mindy Project season finale airs on July 5 on Hulu.
The Good Wife
Okay, technically The Good Wife series finale already aired, but we were looking forward to this one all season! If we are totally honest, we have been awaiting this finale for a few seasons now. I was a casual watcher, but my mother was a faithful fan and she did not have enough good things to say about how the show ended. As for me? I love a good bitch slap.
I have become a big fan of Chicago Med this year. They have a killer cast and round out the perfect trifecta that is the Chicago series. Next week’s season finale has my favorite doc, Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) facing some tough ethical decisions while the rest of the crew just tries to make it through the day and save one of their own.
The Chicago Med season finale airs on May 17 on NBC.
Dancing with the Stars
Yep – DWTS is on season 22 and still going strong! This season has had its fair share of highs and lows, and I am not just referring to the scores. Typically, I select a favorite within the first few weeks of competition, but I have a few favorites this season. Next week’s semifinals will be (arguably) the best of the best, and I just can’t wait for those freestyle dances! (P.S. – The above gif is from my favorite dance of the season, found here.)
The Dancing with the Stars season finale airs May 24 on ABC.
^^ For the record, Octavia, I am. Haven’t these kids been through enough? With both Clarke and Bellamy back in action, the delinquents are in for a heck of a battle. Between Pike, A.L.I.E., and the Grounders, life has been pretty damn hard for the delinquents this season. I know they’re not “real people,” but I am hoping the summer off will do these kids (and the show’s writers) some good.
The 100 season finale airs May 19 on The CW.
