Mindy is back and now that she has her financial shit together, she can move on with her life. With Dr. Jody’s awkward date suggestion hanging in the balance – still in USPS’ possession – what will this week bring?
One Heck of a Dry Spell
There is probably nothing scarier than having a sex dream about Morgan. So, when Mindy has one and wakes up terrified, she decides it is time: she needs to have sex. Since her and Danny’s hookup sessions ended, Mindy has been feeling… neglected. When she has a visit with her gynecologist, who is of course Jody, she mentions the dry spell. It’s been more than six months, and she is actually considering closing up shop.
Mindy consults her “sluttiest” friend for tips on how to get some, but all her friend’s ideas are a little beyond Mindy’s comfort zone, so she looks into a site called CuddleSpot, for people who feel they are past their prime. When her date with guest star Paul Lieberstein (aka, Toby from The Office) goes horribly, Mindy decides to join the hookup app “Pork It.”
Jody is in a tizzy because Mindy still has not received the letter he sent. To ensure she never reads the letter, Jody recruits Morgan, who has a key to Mindy’s apartment to retrieve the letter. When Morgan refuses – his honor of doing Mindy’s laundry would be at risk! – Jody starts talking cash. Jody is prepared to pay Morgan $500 but Morgan is willing to do it for 500 cents.
The rest of the office finds out about Jody’s bogus Elementary viewing party, which was basically a ploy to hang with Mindy alone. Jeremy, Tamra, and Beverly invite themselves and assure Jody it will be an all-night affair, so he’d better be ready. Whoops! The crew bring some friends along and Jody is in way over his head when Tamra insists on discussing fan theories and Jeremy comes dressed as Sherlock himself. The tables turn when it ends up that Jody loves the show Elementary.
As Mindy stalls the meeting of her hookup from “Pork It” in an actual bathroom stall, she chats with the cute bartender. Maybe I’ve seen too many romantic comedies, but this seems like a recipe for success – and one that Mindy Lahiri would truly appreciate! When she asks the bartender’s advice on what she should do, he simply responds, “Don’t go in there. That guy’s gross.” Win!
These Are My Confessions
After Mindy misses the viewing party, Jody decides to confront her and admit his feelings and attraction toward her. She keeps interrupting him, however, to tell him about her failed ex date and how maybe it’s about more than “just sex.” Morgan also disrupts the moment to warn Jody that he may have creeped out his next patient by winking at her.
Finally, Jody kicks Morgan out and shuts Mindy up for long enough to ask her out for coffee. “Just the two of us?” Mindy asks. When he says yes, Mindy accepts and says that would be nice.
Just a few minutes later, Danny bursts through the door of Jody’s office. “What the hell is this?” he yells. It turns out Jody mailed the letter to the wrong address. Rut ro. Danny’s pissed and doesn’t care what Mindy wants or what Jody wants – it is about what he wants. No big surprise there.
Get What You Want
Danny runs into Mindy on his way out and they share an elevator. They briefly talk about Leo, but Danny gets off on the ground floor. When Mindy asks him one last time if he is alright he rushes back to her and hugs her. “Make good decisions,” he murmurs in her ear. Confused, Mindy takes the elevator back up to Shulman and Associates.
Later that evening, after Jody bails on their coffee date, Mindy revisits the bar from her “Pork It” date. The cute bartender, JJ, is working again so Mindy strikes up a conversation with him. She eventually goes for the gold and admits that it is time for her to just communicate what she wants. Mindy tells JJ she is attracted to him and she would like it if he came over to her place later to hang out… and have sex… and then leave right after because Leo will be home at 9:30. After giving him her information, she heads home to wait.
JJ shows up right after 8:00 and Mindy is pleasantly surprised! He is very cute and seems down to Earth, and I wouldn’t mind if this turned into a thing. It turns out neither Mindy nor JJ would mind either, as they are pretty compatible in bed. JJ heads out, letting Mindy know he had a great time and to get ahold of him if she ever wants to do it again.
And just like that, Mindy got her groove back.
I’m not going to lie; this episode was a lot of fun. I half thought Danny was going to kiss Mindy in that elevator, but I am so glad they didn’t go there. I like JJ a lot, and he would be a viable candidate for Mindy’s affections on a more than temporary basis. What will happen in the coming episodes? We will see!
