All day long, fans all over the world have been celebrating Star Wars Day. It’s become quite the holiday in the fandom.

Hamilton‘s Lin Manuel Miranda, who is a big fan of the franchise, joined in on the fun as well. He took it up a level by inviting Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams to perform the new Cantina Song from the movie. Miranda wrote the little diddy for the epic blockbuster in case you didn’t know.

The duo even shared how Miranda got involved in writing for the hit film.  Abrams explained before the performance that he saw Hamilton before Episode VII was released. While he was at the show,  Miranda came up to him at intermission and joked, “If you need music for the cantina, I’m your guy.” Abrams took him at his word and shared with Miranda that he was indeed looking for music. The rest, as the cliche goes, is history.
As for their performance, it was a part of the weekly Ham4Ham show that Miranda puts on in front of the Richard Rodgers theater, where he gets to interact with fans of the record breaking Tony nominated showHamilton was recently nominated for 16 awards.

Before launching into the song,  Miranda provided some insight about the song. The song is in Jabba the Hutt’s native language of Huttese. According to Miranda, it literally translates as “No lover, lover, it’s not me.” Miranda joked: “It’s literally a Shaggy intergalactic remix.”

Check out the video below of their performance!

Miranda and Abrams can do no wrong, am I right? Anyone else feel like they’re hanging out with Maz Kanata?

You can nab the song for your own enjoyment as well. It became available on iTunes today.

We hope everyone’s Star Wars Day was a good one!
