A behind the scenes video shows British actress Daisy Ridley taking her first steps towards a galaxy far, far away.
The newcomer’s Star Wars audition tape will be part of the bonus content that will accompany the home release of The Force Awakens.
In the clip, director J.J Abrams can be heard explaining how Ridley won the role of Rey over thousands of other hopefuls.
“What we were looking for was someone new. This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking,” he said.
“It wasn’t until we found Daisy that we just felt like she was capable of doing all of these things this character required.
“When we brought her in, I asked her to do this one scene, a torture scene, and she just blew my mind,” he added.
The scene in question is the infamous interrogation where Rey turns the tables on Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. Clearly, Ridley had the scene nailed long before the cameras started rolling.
“She’s reaching this depth of struggle, and tears were streaming down her face,” said Abrams.
“I asked her to stop, gave her a couple of adjustments, do it again, and she did it again. I thought, ‘Oh, my God.’ ”
Ridley and the rest of the cast are now busy filming the still-untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII for writer and director Rian Johnson. It is set for a Christmas 2017 release.
In the meantime, fans need to get their hands on Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The movie is already available on digital HD. The DVD/Blu-ray will be released in the US on April 5, and in the UK on April 18.
