The Shadowhunters television show on Freeform and Netflix is the second adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s bestselling City if Bones series. It has already been green lit for a season two, so fans of the series have plenty to look forward to with their favourite paranormal beings.

The show has hit its stride with lots of talk surrounding its latest controversy – the small detail of Clary Fray (played by Katherine McNamara) and Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood) finding out they are related after having started a relationship.

Now for those who have read the books you know what the outcome of this little predicament is, but we’ll keep it quiet for everyone else to discover on their own. Much like Sherwood, who only read the first book because he said he didn’t want to know what Jace was feeling in any other book because what was important was reacting to how things were in moment.

Another aspect of the show that has everyone on their toes is the relationship, or the almost relationship between Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) and Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.). Also known by their ship name: Malec.

Both Daddario and Shum where coy with their answers surrounding the details of their relationship joking around that we might see some Malec in season 332. Rude.

So many lovey-dovey eyes, so little time. Just get together already!

Knowing that this show is based on a series of books and seeing how shows like Game of Thrones have caught up to their literary counterparts so very quickly; it is definitely on everyone’s mind especially showrunner Ed Decter’s and executive producer McG’s.

He said that they plan to slow down the books in order to stretch out the story for the big screen. This, of course, means that things may have to differ.

When we asked if they were worried about the die-hard fans reactions to changes to their most beloved story, Decter said: “Initially the fans were freaked out that we were going to adapt the books and do certain things different and then now I’ve been noticing that the fans are trusting us because the know that we love the books and we care about the books and we care about the relationships. I think the overwhelming response from, say Malec, shows that they’re starting to trust us with this great material.”

McG continued, “The books are sacred. They belong to all of us; they’ve been written, we can enjoy them. Now let’s have fun making a television show, but we hope to always honour the essence of the book and I think it is our responsibility to the fandom to go ever higher and weave in and out of those storylines.”

“I think a great north star is certainly the George Martin relationship to the guys that run Game of Thrones. You gotta do what you gotta do with the books but then you have to make the show as well and it certainly doesn’t mean we’re going to get every decision right but I hope it’s the effort that comes first and foremost. I know Ed is trying with ounce of energy he has and ever bit of creativity so here we go,” he finished.

Shadowhunters airs Tuesday’s at 9pm on Freeform.
