Grab those tiaras, fans. Everyone’s favorite adorkable Princess could be making her way back to big screens soon.
It’s been over 10 years since Oscar winner Anne Hathaway graced our screens as Mia Thermopolis, the new crowned Queen of Genovia in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. In that film, audiences saw Mia grow from being an awkward princess to a regal queen.
Since that film, fans have been wondering if there would ever be a follow up to it. Director Garry Marshall seems to think so and has recently spoken out about the possibility of a third film.
“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan. Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it,” revealed the director to People.
When asked about whether Chris Pine would be returning as the dreamy Nicholas, the young royal who stole Mia’s heart and won over audiences everywhere, Marshall would like to see that happen as well. The director isn’t quite sure if Pine would have the time though.
“Maybe,” Marshall said. “He’s quite big now, you know.”
Both Pine and Hathaway’s careers have exploded since their time in Genovia; Hathaway took home the Oscar in 2013 for her turn as Fantine in Les Miserables while Pine has become a force to be reckoned with in the blockbuster franchise Star Trek and soon Wonder Woman.
Time will tell if Mia will get her third outing on the big screen. Hathaway will be busy for awhile; the actress is expecting her first child later this year.
In the meantime, you can catch Marshall’s latest rom-com Mother’s Day on April 29.
