Freeform To Explore What Happens After Sleeping Beauty Awakes In New Series

We all know how much I love fairy tales, and I especially love it when shows like Once Upon a Time give fairy tales a new lease of life. So I am very excited to report that Freeform are developing their own reimagining of a tale which features a certain sleeping princess. Yes, it’s Sleeping Beauty!

We all know the story of Aurora; she was cursed by Maleficent as a baby so that when she pricked her finger on a spinning wheel she would fall into a deep sleep for 100 years and only true love’s kiss can break the spell. And of course, after the arrival of the handsome Prince Phillip, the spell is broken and the pair live happily ever after… Or do they? And there is the basis of the new series, entitled After.

The show is based on Rhiannon Thomas’s debut novel A Wicked Thing, where, according to Deadline, “Princess Aurora wakes up to the kiss of a handsome prince one hundred years after falling asleep to find her family long dead and her kingdom taken from her. She must transform into a warrior to regain it.” Basically, Aurora is going to have a bigger role to play then she did in the Disney movie. And by the sounds of things, she’s going to be kind of a badass and not the Aurora we are used to seeing, which is not such a bad thing.

It has been revealed that Tom Lynch will co-write the series along with Adam Lash and Cori Uchida, while Robin Schwartz will join Lynch taking on the role of executive producer. Casting has not begun yet as the series is still in development, so if anything changes we will let you all know. And to be honest I don’t know who would be a good person to play Aurora because I haven’t read the book yet, but it does sound really good, so I’m going to definitely be ordering A Wicked Thing for my Kindle right away!

Let us know if you have any casting suggestions for After!
