Fox Has Renewed Gotham For A Third Season

Gotham fans rejoice! The DC show has been renewed by Fox for a third season with 22 episodes. The show’s been going strong this season, averaging 9 million weekly views! Not bad, huh?

“It takes a very special team to tell the tales of Gotham,” said Fox president David Madden in a statement. “For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honoured the mythology of Gotham and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama.

“This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn’t be more proud of this show.” That’s certainly true! A lot of our favourite villains are on ice right now, locked up safe and sound in Arkham Asylum, but it’s gotta be said: they’ve all been doing a fantastic job at reinventing characters that are so ingrained in the cultural consciousness!

Most recently, Mr Freeze (House of Cards’ Nathan Darrow aka Meechum) has been causing a stir in Gotham city, but he’s out of the picture … for now!

Rise of the Villains has certainly been living up to expectations, but some of our villains have been doing better than others! Cory Michael Smith’s Edward Nygma has been keeping under the radar … unlike the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), who’s currently undergoing some pretty torturous “therapy” at the hands of Dr. Strange (no, not Benedict Cumberbatch … the DC Dr. Strange!).

We’ve definitely got some big fish to fry in the rest of this season … TVLine reported that Jada Pinkett Smith will be reprising her role as the fabulous Fish Mooney! Show runner Bruno Heller hinted that she might not be as dead as she seems… “I would definitely not assume anything in a town like Gotham,” he warned. “It’s very unpredictable, the comic book world.”

Season three will certainly give us a lot to look forward to: Lee and Jim’s baby for one thing, not to mention a whole new slew of villains, to be sure!

You can catch the next episode Monday, Feb 29th!
