Time to get excited for the next Star Wars film. While Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still dominating in the box office and smashing new records everyday, the next film is apparently already up and running production wise and adding to its cast of characters.

The team behind the upcoming sequel released an announcement video about the production of the newest film. The cast and crew have already reported to the film’s set, which started filming on Monday in London.

The announcement video features the ending scene of the last film, where fans finally got their glimpse of the lone Jedi master, Luke Skywalker, meeting the heroine of the film, Rey. Rey found Luke’s location and is also last seen giving Skywalker his old lightsaber.

That’s not all the news that the Star Wars franchise has to bring us this week. Along with announcing that production is underway, new cast members were added this week.

Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran have all joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Their roles at this time have not been released but they are joining quite the diverse cast of talented actors. It will be fun to speculate whether these three new cast members are going to be either on the dark side or the light side.

They’ll be joining Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis, as they are all returning for the follow up to The Force Awakens.

J.J. Abrams is not directing the sequel. Rian Johnson is taking over as both the writer and director of the film. Abrams is stepping back to be its executive producer alongside Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

Fans will have sometime to wait as this film is not scheduled to be out until 2017.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated for release Dec. 15, 2017.
