I am one of the many people who is waiting with serious anticipation for the six season of Game of Thrones and also the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series which George R.R. Martin is working on called The Winds of Winter. Although we already know that the show is overtaking the books in terms of some of the character’s storylines of the series, George has revealed that there is a twist in the book series which involves a character that has died in the show.
Viewers and readers of the show will know that there have been a few people killed off in the show which haven’t been killed in the books yet. So, knowing that one of these characters will be part of a twist in the book is very exciting. George revealed the twist in an interview with IGN, where he said that “The show can’t do this, unfortunately, because they’ve killed a character I have not killed.” But like I said there have been a few deaths in the show that didn’t happen in the books, especially after season 5 and George admits that it won’t be easy for us to guess which character will be a part of the twist, as it “doesn’t narrow it down much… because at this point there are, like, 15 characters who are dead on the show who are still alive in the books.”
The fact that the show has caught up with the books has been a major topic of conversation in the last few months as going into the sixth season on Game of Thrones, as both the book fans and the television fans are on the same page in the story and neither has the advantage of knowing what is coming next. One thing is for sure, it is going to be an incredible season seeing as we were left with so many questions last season about our favourite character’s fates, (I’m looking at you Jon Snow).
Another character who we left in kind of dangerous situation was Arya who had been blinded by Jaqen H’ghar as punishment for killing Meryn Trant at the end of season 5. According to Maisie Williams who plays Arya, things aren’t going to get much better for her in season six. The actress told Digital Spy, “Going into season six, she gets broken down totally. We see her at the lowest point we’ve ever seen her. This time it’s nothing to do with a family member being killed, it’s something purely about herself.”
I personally think this is pretty cool to be able to see a different side to Arya as she’s basically been sticking to her kill-list in order to avenge her family. However now it seems like Arya’s perspective has changed and it will be really cool to see what she does next. And I’m not the only one who is excited about this, as Maisie herself said about Arya’s transition, “I love that side of it, and I think this new series, we definitely see a new crack in her. There’s a moment where you question whether she’s going to get back up or keep fighting.”
Let’s hoping Arya keeps fighting because I don’t want to lose another Stark on the series, do you? The sixth season of Game of Thrones will return on both HBO and Sky Atlantic on April 24th and it definitely cannot come fast enough in my opinion!
