In the land we call television, it’s always possible that just because a show ended the way you saw it, it doesn’t in any way mean that that was the show’s intended ending.
I’m sure everyone was as pleased as punch that when it came to Sex & The City, Carrie got her happy ending with Mr. Big. However, maybe not everyone. In a recent Kindle Singles interview, Sex & The City creator Darren Starr has made it pretty cut and dry that when it really came down to brass tacks, Carrie wasn’t meant to end up with Mr. Big at all.
Perhaps it would have been all for the best if Carrie didn’t marry Mr. Big, but I will bet that’s something the fans of the show will never get to see.
Starr seemed to have quite a bit to say about how the show he created should have ended, at least if he had been running the show at that point in time. “If your empowering other people to write and produce your show, you can’t say certain things,” Starr said. “At a certain point, you’ve got to let them follow their vision. … But I think the show ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage.”
Starr added, “It’s not that they can’t. But the show initially was going off script from the romantic comedies that had come before it. That’s what had made women so attached.”
It’s safe to assume that if Starr had been a part of the creative process for the latter part of Sex & The City, we may very well have seen Carrie storm off in her beautiful Manolos and just said, “Stick a fork in me, because I’m done with this crap.” That’s just what I think, and knowing the creative minds behind the series, she would have been much more spiteful.
There’s been so many rumors making the rounds of the internet saying that a third movie was in the works or that the series is getting picked up by Netflix. While nothing has been confirmed to date, you can bet we’ll let you know once anything firms up.
