Arrow‘s second half of season four got started off with quite the bang as Felicity’s fate was revealed, and Oliver found himself face to face with one Damien Darhk. For Oliver though, Darhk is only one of his problems as his epic nemesis Malcolm Merlyn is apparently going to be back to cause some ruckus soon.
Stephen Amell and John Barrowman, who play Oliver and Malcolm respectively, were at the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest this past weekend and shared some details about what’s to come for their characters. And by share, it’s actually teasing because these two are masters of secrets.
“We got the all-time – the all-time end of an episode [coming up] where you just go, ‘MERLYN! C’MON! Really?!'” Amell teased when asked about what’s coming up next as far as battles. “Plus John [Barrowman] and I have a showdown. It’s – we have the Rematch of 1.23. The rematch three years in the making. It’s pretty cool.”
Barrowman was a bit more specific with his teases and response to Amell’s share. “We had one fight, in episode 1.23, we had one fight,” Amell. “We have another fight coming up…” Barrowman shared, “In the fight that he’s alluding to, this fight, we did a lot of the close-up stuff by ourselves. Our stunt guys did wide shots, but we did the close-up stuff ourselves, and that’s all I’ll say.”
Barrowman also revealed that Malcolm’s version of Ra’s Al Ghul is in for some changes.
“When he became Ra’s al Ghul, he was finally in charge of the League of Assasins, but what he really wanted to be doing was still manipulating who I’ll call the Team Oliver people,” Barrowman shared.
He calls them that, instead of Team Arrow, because Merlyn likes manipulating them on a personal level, not just in their heroic lives. “You’ll have to watch to see what happens,” the actor revealed, “because pretty soon a lot of things are going to change drastically.”
One would think Merlyn would be happy given that he no longer has to run from the League because he runs it. Plus he has all that money and even looks pretty damn good and convincing as a fake Green Arrow.
As for their epic fight, Amell and Barrowman didn’t give away much but it’s definitely going to be one of the scenes to watch. Merlyn’s and Oliver’s fights were quite intense during the first season, with Malcolm effortlessly always besting Oliver. Maybe Oliver will win this one.
Arrow airs on Wednesday nights on the CW.
