The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unstoppable force that seems to never stop working. Scott Derrickson and crew are currently filming Doctor Strange, while James Gunn and his team are working on pre-production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
Phase Three will start in May with Captain America: Civil War, the movie that promises to crush our souls, but in November, the Sorcerer Supreme will make everything better in Doctor Strange. This movie will expand the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe introducing us to Stephen Strange, a renowned neurosurgeon who, after an accident which shatters his hands, can’t keep performing surgery. This leads him on a journey to look for an alternative way to heal, and so he meets the Ancient One, who, after a few obstacles, agrees to teach him the mystical arts.
So yes, this is going to be a very different movie in every way, and Marvel is being especially mysterious about it. We don’t have any plot details yet and some characters are still unconfirmed – such as Michael Stuhlbarg’s (rumoured to play Doctor Nicodemus West), Mads Mikkelsen (who we are hoping will play Dormammu), and Rachel McAdams (possibly playing Night Nurse Christine Palmer).
Possibilities of these actors sharing some details about their characters are zero to none (Marvel snipers, hello), but they surely can speak about other Doctor Strange related stuff. That’s what Rachel McAdams did in an interview with MTV. Her inclusion in the MCU has been one of my favourites, and she opened up about her decision to join the ever-growing Marvel family.
“I mean, I just love the director. I met with Scott [Derrickson] and loved his vision, he was so passionate. And the opportunity to work with Benedict was kind of a no-brainer. And Marvel makes amazing films, so it was a complete package”, McAdams said.
Director of photography Ben Davis, who also worked on Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, revealed a few months ago that Doctor Strange will be – in terms of aesthetic – Marvel’s Fantasia. Honestly, there’s no other way to go with this movie: the comics have a psychedelic vibe all over them, with colourful panels that are a visual delight.
Add Scott Derrickson’s artistry and we are on for one hell of a ride, as confirmed by McAdams.
“It’s definitely not going to be like any of the other films”, she added.
Yes, please. Wait, what do you mean we are 11 months away from its release?!
Doctor Strange, part of Marvel’s Phase Three, is scheduled for a November 4 release. We will keep you posted on all the details that come out!
