What makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe really stand out as a method of storytelling is how there is an attempt to connect the various single properties under its umbrella.
It really is something to commended just from a writing level. Each solo Marvel property can stand on its own, yet they are still part of the same universe overall.
And it’s definitely mind-blowing when you consider it.
Of course, it’s essentially taking a comic book model of storytelling and adapting it for film and television. It does require a lot of planning though, and I have to applaud the folks at Marvel for committing to it.
And I do admit that I am curious to see how DCEU and the potential Universal monster franchises pan out.
So how does it fit so well together?
In an 11-minute featurette, part of the Amazon Phase 2 box set, explores this.
And hell yes, it is very cool for the nerds of us out there.
Unsurprisingly, it does tend to focus a bit more on the films over the television shows. But the box set is for the films, so it should not have come as that big of shock to the viewers out there.
What is so beautifully simple about this, from a writing standpoint, is that the work that it takes to connect the films to each other is so minimal. Just one line and suddenly you can connect Iron Man 2 to Thor. It acknowledges the importance of the post-credit scenes in connecting the films together for fans while not alienating audiences.
Seriously, God bless those diabolical minds over at Marvel who make sure these things happen.
