If you have been swept away with all the hubbub surrounding Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s movie, Sisters, that was just released this weekend, you are not alone. However, one glorious aspect of seeing Tina Fey back on the silver screen is the friendly reminder that she has another new movie coming out this March called Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
The first full-length trailer for the movie co-starring Margot Robbie and Billy Bob Thornton has arrived, and – I’m not going to lie – it looks awesome! Take a look for yourself:
This movie looks super fantastic, but I have to admit that calling it an “Afghanistan war comedy” was a little off putting. The trailer seems like a mixture of equal parts of appealing genres: action adventure, gal pal comedy, and strong female empowerment.
Fey plays Kim Barker, a journalist sent to the heart of Afghanistan during (presumably) the War on Terror. Throughout the trailer, we see glimpses of Kim’s life stateside as well as overseas. From not crying over being unmarried and childless to outrage over being shot at, we witness her trials and tribulations as she struggles to “find herself” in Afghanistan. It is safe to say we are sure to see quite a change in Kim by the end of the movie.
In a lighthearted but serious conversation, Kim admits that she took the career opportunity in Afghanistan to shake up her humdrum life. Typical “American white lady response,” right? The jokes come one right after the other throughout this precious two and a half minutes, and we can only hope the entire movie feels as fun as this trailer.
With such a talented and comedic supporting cast, we have a feeling this will be a nice bit of entertainment to get us through the almost-spring slumps (also, it comes out the day after my birthday!). Thank you, Tina Fey, for returning to our screens once again.
