Christmas time is such a magical time, and for many of us, our favorite time of the year because we can watch those feel good holiday flicks.
Let’s be honest though, most of us watch them all year long (raise your hand if you do).
There are so many films to choose from that making a list of your top three favorite films can be tricky. After all, some of us like our rom-coms more than our animated films and so on and so forth.
For me, choosing the top three wasn’t difficult as there are really only three films that I cannot go without watching time and time again during the holiday season.
Without further ado, here are my top three holiday films.
If you totally saw this movie coming as part of the top three, pat yourselves on the back. There are a plethora of articles out there about how this movie is actually the worst, but seriously, it’s quite the opposite. This movie could not have come out at a better time. The world needed it as it was still reeling from the 9/11 attacks and just conflict and chaos everywhere. With its perfect cast of the best of the British film industry and more, the film effortlessly connects several plot lines about love, loss, romance, family, and heartbreak to help deliver the ultimate message: Love is actually all around.
The Family Stone
Raise your hand if you grew up in a dysfunctional family! This movie is for you. This movie has become quite the gem now, going on 10 years since its release, and it gets better and better with each viewing. When it first came out, I thought to myself, “There’s no way I’m going to be able to relate to the family in this movie.” Boy, was I wrong!
There’s the first born overachiever, the earthy child, the sarcastic child, the hapless wanderer and the sensitive soul all in one family. Featuring Diane Keaton as the mother hen, this movie will make you laugh, get angry, and ultimately cry bucket loads by the end of it as you find that the holidays can bring out the worst in families but ultimately show us the ties that bind us as a family.
The last film on my list is the ode to singledom during the holiday season. For many, there’s nothing worse than being alone during Christmas and New Year’s, and this movie shows us that you should never give up hope. You just might need to relocate for a bit to have some luck in that department. Featuring one of my faves, the talented Kate Winslet, The Holiday delivers the message to never give up on love and when you least expect to find it, it may find you instead.
The whole cast in this film is kinda perfect. As well as Winslet, it has Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black as the leads. The chemistry between them is rather flawless, and the ending of the film will have you standing up and cheering.
