Last night (November 22) the crowds gathered at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for the 2015 American Music Awards. Surprising to really no one, the nominations were dominated by Taylor Swift, One Direction, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Meghan Trainor, and Walk the Moon. With competition fierce, there were a number of awards where a number of the nominees could take home the prize, though the night belonged to Swift, The Weeknd and One Direction.

As to be expected, interspersed with the award-giving were a number of spectacular performances with host Jennifer Lopez starting the night off with dance-heavy medley of some of the nominees hits, though Nicki Minaj did not seem overly impressed with the tribute. Other stand-out performances came from Coldplay, 5 Seconds of Summer, Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor, Walk the Moon, the Weeknd, and an Alanis Morissette/Demi Lovato duet of “You Oughta Know,” marking the 20th anniversary of Morissette’s hit album Jagged Little Pill. However, a favourite both with the crowd in attendance and those watching at home was Pentatonix’s Star Wars medley. It certainly helped that they came on after Harrison Ford introduced a special sneak peek look at the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In wake of the devastating events in Paris last week, Celine Dion paid tribute to the victims performing a moving version of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne a L’amour”
