I am so glad that Creed is doing so well at the box office.
The film is being universally acclaimed from critics and audiences alike. Michael B. Jordan is getting all sorts of praise for his stellar performance as Adonis “Donnie” Creed.
As a huge Michael B. Jordan fan, I am so glad that his talent is finally being recognized to mainstream audiences. He has shined a lot on the indie circuit, and was cheated out of a Academy Award nomination for Fruitvale Station.
Then this summer’s Fantastic Four movie happened…
Do I really need to go into how not good that film was? Everyone practically hated the film, and the sequel to Fantastic Four was removed from Fox’s schedule of upcoming movie releases.
Colored me unsurprised.
You think a failure that epic would have all the stars of the film (Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B Jordan) backing off any superhero films.
Jordan, however, is still opened to returning to the genre. While on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Jordan talked about the failure of Fantastic Four.
He said: “I got out of there pretty clean, you know, it’s one of those things where it was a lesson for me that really made me realize that things aren’t in your control.”
Which is true, an actor’s performance can only do so much in the overall film. Personally, I think it was just a bad adaptation with a shaky script that had way too much studio interference. But that’s just me.
As for Jordan’s possible superhero return?
He said: “You know I would gladly do it again. It was a – me being a comic book fan, and yeah, for that – it was just a dream come true being able to play that character [Johnny Storm]”.
Honestly? I think with the right role, Jordan could be a totally awesome superhero. I’m kind of picturing him as Green Lantern or maybe Nova! That would be pretty cool.
Let’s make this happen people.
