Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was originally released back in 2001 to raise funds for charity. The book is written in the style of the textbook that Harry, Ron and Hermione use during their time at Hogwarts. Indeed, it even features ‘hand written’ notes by them in the margins.

For the movie version of Fantastic Beasts, J.K. Rowling has written her first ever screenplay, but documenting various fantastic beasts and their locations is hardly going to keep audiences entertained for two hours, so what exactly will the plot be?

All we know so far is that Fantastic Beasts follows the books fictitious author, Newt Scamander, and that it takes place in 1926 New York, but thanks to EW’s feature on the movie, we now have the film’s logo, our first look at Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and BTS pictures of filming, all released in the last few days. Now they’ve also released a spoiler-free synopsis for the movie. Read on for the low down!

“Eccentric magizoologist Newt Scamander (Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) comes to New York (for a reason we won’t disclose) with his trusty weathered case. This case is one of those way-way-way-bigger-on-the-inside magical devices, and within are expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures from Newt’s travels around globe. He discovers the American wizarding community is fearfully hiding from Muggles (who are called “No-Maj” in the States) and the threat of public exposure is an even graver concern than in the UK (remember the Salem witch trials?). Fantastic Beasts is the story of what happens when this uniquely skilled English wizard travels to wiz-phobic America and a variety of his creatures, some quite dangerous … get out of their case.”

So there’s the plot! First of all; No-Maj? NO THANK YOU!! We’ll stick with Muggles, thank you. Apart from that, the plot sounds quite good, certainly enough to hold our interest. Let’s face it, J.K. Rowling is truly one of the most gifted writers the world has ever seen, and she’s so heavily involved in Fantastic Beasts that it’s sure to be a good time!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits cinemas in November, 2016.
