It has been an exciting couple of days for Suicide Squad fans. It seems Empire magazine can’t stop teasing us with new pictures from the upcoming movie. Not that I’m complaining.

First there was the covers and now pictures from inside the magazine are hitting the internet featuring more of the characters.

Among the images is our first close-up look at Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc.

I think with this kind of make up it could have easily gone wrong, but I don’t think that is an issue at all. I think he looks great, dark and menacing. He isn’t a character I know much about.

Pictured next to Harley Quinn? It doesn’t really seem like they are two characters that would get along easily.

Also there is a close-up look at Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress.

One character I am looking forward to seeing, more than the rest that is, is Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang. He doesn’t look anything like the comic book character, but I think he looks so much better.

None of these characters look like the superheros we have become accustom to. They are dark characters, with dark, evil pasts. They are recruited by Amanda Waller to form the Suicide Squad to turn their talents for some good instead of being lock up in prison. Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, is ruthless. She recruits them because to her they are expendable.

“She is ruthless in her villainy,” Viola Davis tells Empire. “When you look at her, there’s nothing that seems dangerous. Her only power is her intelligence and her complete lack of guilt.”

In the comic, she implants an explosive into each of their necks in order to keep them in line. Only when the task is fully completed that the explosive gets deactivated. It seems each time Waller keeps the explosives activated until right before they are going to go off. In so many ways, she is just as dangerous as these villains. She has so much power over them and holds their lives in her hands.

I don’t know if they will use this in the movie, but I think it explains just how far she is willing to go in order to control these characters into doing her work and just how expendable they are to her.

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
