The Wiz Live! is set to take over tv screens in about two months, and this week, the buzz around the upcoming musical got a much needed jolt as a first look at the musical was released.
NBC announced that it was tackling The Wiz back in March. The 1975 broadway hit, which also spurned a hit movie starring Diana Ross and the late Michael Jackson, is known for its re-imagining of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with an all-black cast and a NYC-inspired Land of Oz. This live musical version of The Wiz will be following in the footsteps of A Sound of Music Live and last year’s comparatively less successful Peter Pan Live.
With Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Uzo Aduba as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, Amber Riley as Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North, Stephanie Mills as Auntie Em, Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow, Ne-Yo as the Tin Man, and newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy, the cast is quite impressive.
NBC released the first cast photos, which are a lot of fun to look at. Take a look at the cast in their costumes below.
Along with the cast photos, NBC also released a behind the scenes video of their shoot.
The Wiz Live! will have audiences easing on down the road on December 3.
