Fox Studios’ eagerly anticipated Deadpool movie is in its post-production stage right now, and we couldn’t be more excited! Producer Simon Kinberg, talking to Collider, has worked us up even more, revealing that he’s seen a rough cut of the film, and fans won’t be disappointed!
“I have seen a rough cut of Deadpool and it’s fantastic. It’s a really good movie. It delivers on the promise of the trailer… We really committed and leaned into it being R-rated. It’s just darker and edgier and weirder in the best way—like Deadpool should be—than any other movie in the genre.”
Well, that’s certainly good news! The very R rated Red Band trailer, released earlier this year, was received spectacularly by fans – certainly a refreshing change from the ‘fun for all the family’ route both the Avengers and X-Men franchises have chosen!
The trailer showed us that Deadpool certainly wouldn’t be shying away from anything – incredible hyper-realistic violence, fourth-wall-breaking jokes, and all round inappropriate humour – everything we’d expect from our favourite Merc with the Mouth (helpfully not sewn shut this time …)!
Now, although speaking cautiously, Kinberg seemed optimistic about a sequel:
“We certainly are talking about the sequel—we were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that’s from a serialized source material, you hope that it’s the first of many… But yeah [Fox is] feeling good about it, we’re all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel.”
As a fresh take on the superhero genre, this film’s bound to do well, right? Which means we’ll probably have a lot more Wade to look forward to in future!
There have been hints of the comic book character Cable appearing in future Deadpool projects, which would provide a handy link to the X-Men universe, since he’s Scott Summers’ son!
Kinberg said: “It’s certainly come up because he’s such a big character in the world. And it’s a character that I’ve always wanted to do in one form or another, we talked about Cable actually in Days of Future Past at one point. But yeah we’re in such the early stages of sequel talk it would be genuinely premature for me to say whether or not he was gonna be in it.”
Who else can’t wait for Deadpool to get up and running? We don’t have long to go now! It’s due to hit US screens February 12 2016!
