Jared Leto, aka The Joker, is at it again.
He seems to be taking his role as the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie very seriously. But we aren’t complaining. Whereas we see most of the other cast hanging out and giving each other “skwad” tattoos, Leto is embodying the Joker character and continuing to send weird gifts to his costars.
First he sent a live rat to Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn. Now Jay Hernandez, who plays Chato Santana/El Diablo in the film, posted an Instagram picture of a gift he recently received from Leto. The gift was a wicker basket containing a deck of cards with the joker card placed on top, a crumpled up newspaper that looked like it could have something inside, and an envelope with a personalized letter addressed to Hernandez’s character.
The caption reads: “My dear friend The Joker gave me a gift…inside is a glimpse into the mind of a madman. #putasmileonthatface”
These gifts are just another sign of the dedication we can expect from Leto to his character. If this is how it is off-screen, just imagine what it will be like to watch him onscreen as the Joker. He may not be a part of the rest of the cast’s bonding sessions, thus contributing to our squad goals, but he is proving just how Joker-like he can be in real life. And it is perfectly creepy.
There was some doubt when the look of Leto’s Joker was released, but I have no doubt that he will pull it together and I look forward to seeing it.
Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer. It also stars Will Smith (Focus), Jai Courtney (The Divergent Series: Insurgent), Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns), Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra), and Joel Kinnaman (The Killing).
