When a Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon was announced, I was stupidly excited for it.

I mean what is a better premise, or team, to follow for a Marvel cartoon? A bunch of barely on the side of the law good guys in space?

It was cool enough as a movie. It promises to be ever cooler as an animated show.

At least it promises in theory anyway.

I’ll get to that in a second though.

According to TVLine, the Guardians animated series will officially debut Saturday, September 26th at 9:30/8:30c on Disney XD.

You don’t have to wait that long to check out though! Disney will be airing a sneak peek on Disney XD on September 5th at 9pm, and the network will show two special 10-minute mini-episodes focusing on the Guardians backstories beforehand.

We’ll all have our huge dose of the Guardians before we even see them!

TVLine also had a schedule on when the mini-episodes can be seen.

Aug. 1: Star Lord, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (10:28 pm)
Aug. 8: Groot, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
Aug. 15: Rocket Raccoon, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
Aug. 22: Drax, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
Aug. 29: Gamora, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)

And if that wasn’t enough, a brand new poster was released featuring the crew.

Looks like it’s time for Rocket and Groot to get some action.

Let me be real with you all, Marvel needs a really good animated show.

Fans of the superhero genre know these two facts: Marvel rules movies and DC rules TV. Now this isn’t saying that Marvel doesn’t have good television shows or that DC can’t turn out a good movie. As a general rule, however, this is where the battle lines are drawn, especially in the animation departments.

Marvel animated shows and movies are from varying degrees of pretty good to why the hell did you put this on the screen. DC animated shows and movies, for the most part, tend to be considered classics. We all grew up with Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock, Teen Titans, Batman: The Brave and the Bold. They weren’t afraid to be dark or to treat their audience like adults.

After Disney cancelled the beloved Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, which focused more on the comics, fans had a lukewarm reaction to Avengers Assemble! and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Now I have high hopes for the show. It has an amazing cast which features Will Friedle, Kevin Michael Richardson, Vanessa Marshall, Trevor Devall, and David Sobolov. The test footage they showed at New York Comic Con last year looked pretty rocking.

Fingers crossed!

Guardians of the Galaxy will have a special sneak peek on Disney XD September 5th at 9pm. It will officially premiere September 26th at 9:30.
