With news that Liam Garrigan would be joining the cast of Once Upon a Time as the legendary King Arthur, we knew that it would only be a matter of time before more Camelot castings were announced.
That time has come as Deadline has revealed that the roles of Merlin and Guinevere have been cast along with the role of one of Arthur’s most faithful knights, Percival.
As far as we know right now, these are the only characters from Camelot who will be making an appearance in the upcoming season along with Sinqua Walls, who is set to reprise his role as Lancelot.
The role of Merlin will be played by Elliot Knight, who previously appeared in BBC’s Sinbad and How to Get Away With Murder. We have already mentioned how important Merlin is to season five as the only one who can save Emma from the Dark One’s control.
The role of Guinevere will be played by Joana Metrass, who has appeared in the Portuguese drama series Sinais de Vida. Both the roles are recurring, along with the role of King Arthur. This may give us a hint that we are going to meet these three characters in present day and not through flashbacks. You never can tell with Once Upon A Time.
The last casting announcement made was for the guest-starring role of Percival, who will be played by Wayward Pines actor Andrew Jenkins. Although Percival is, of course, Arthur’s most loyal knight, we don’t know what role he will play in the Camelot storyline.
Though, since he is a guest star the chances are he will not feature as heavily in the storyline as the other characters.
We don’t know how these characters will enter the OUAT universe, but it is clear that they will play a big role in the season. I can’t wait to see how this plays out!
Season five of Once Upon a Time will premiere on Sunday, September 27th on ABC.
