The new Gotham season 2 trailer promises a Rise of the Villains; something the cast say should have been the focus of the show all along. A spooky rendition of Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” teases a more insidious evil than the mob wars we saw in season 1.
Gotham is a new city now, with everyone’s favourite feathered fiend (Robin Lord Taylor’s Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin) running the show.
We saw Edward Nygma (played by Cory Michael Smith) begin his dark journey to the Riddler with his first murder at the end of last season, and this teaser promises more more more! There’s a sneak peek of new cast members Jessica Lucas (Gracepoint) as Tigress and James Frain (True Blood) as her brother Theo Galavant.
Award winning Cameron Monaghan (Shameless)’s pre-Joker character Jerome is also on the rise, his signature grin firmly in place.
Our hero Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) looks like he’s going to have his work cut out for him! Luckily, he’s now got the help of new GCPD Captain Nathaniel Barnes, played by Emmy winning Shield star Michael Chiklis!
According to Gotham producers, “For Gordon, Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.”
Well, that doesn’t sound ominous at all!
Jim looks like he’s making more than a few risky decisions, teaming up with the Penguin; like that’s worked so well for him in the past!
Although they don’t have a spot in this preview, we have been assured that David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne and Camren Bicondova’s Selina Kyle definitely have huge roles in the upcoming season, with Bruce heading down the path to the Dark Knight and Selina being forced to pick a side.
