When Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue DeConnick announced at HeroesCon on June 20 that after the Marvel event Secret Wars she would be ending her run with the hero every member of the Carol Corps was extremely sad to hear the news.
According to The Beat, DeConnick said of her departure that,”She realized after the movie was announced that she would have to ‘dig in for three more years or drop the mic,’ but that Carol has taught her to ‘brave the next step.'”
I am currently catching up on this run of Captain Marvel I can honestly say that her writing will be missed – DeConnick created a fantastic character in Carol Danvers that has certainly made me excited to see Captain Marvel on the big screen.
So who is going to replace DeConnick after the completion of Secret Wars? You will be happy to know that Agent Carter‘s showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have signed on to be the new writers of the series.
Okay, if you are going to pass this comic off to anyone I am completely sold on these two after seeing what they managed to do with Agent Carter.
They will be joined by artist Kris Anka – who is also an illustrator on the fantastic Ms. Marvel – and just by looking at the new cover and designs it is going to be great.
In an interview with FastCompany, Butters talked about the transition to writing comics from TV. She said, “It’s been really fun playing in a world where you can do anything. In comics, there is no budget.”
The new series will begin in eight months, according to FastCompany, after the completion of Secret Wars which will bring about an “All-New All-Different Marvel.”
“Marvel really wanted us to design what her mission is within the universe. We know what S.H.I.E.L.D.’s mission is, we know what the Avengers’ mission is, we know what Guardians of the Galaxy’s mission is. So how does Captain Marvel fit into all that?” Fazekas said.
The mission that Captain Marvel will be on is, “as Earth’s first line of defense against extraterrestrial threats.”
I’m seriously excited to see what is next for Captain Marvel in the Marvel Comic’s universe. She is such a strong character with a great history that everyone can enjoy.
If you haven’t make sure you check out Captain Marvel’s current run before DeConnick’s departure and the highly anticipated Captain Marvel film in 2018.
