It has been a long wait for this big pop collaboration but it is finally here! Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea have released their highly anticipated collaboration, “Pretty Girls”. The audio for the track was posted on Britney’s official VEVO account accompanied by the single artwork. The artwork features the ‘Toxic” hitmaker straddling a rocket with Iggy sat nude in a bubble surrounded by planets.

As a fan of Britney (who isn’t, though), I have to say, the song is painfully disappointing for several reasons. Although it is catchy and a good move for both women in their careers, the song itself left me feeling pretty flat. The striking similarities between the song and Iggy’s previous hit with Charli XCX, “Fancy” are undeniable. Britney actually sounds like Charli XCX in the chorus, and it’s almost distracting. She doesn’t really sound like herself at all!

I know it’s chart-directed pop music and doesn’t really need any sort of analysis anyway but it really feels like a cheap recreation of “Fancy”. The self-obsessed lyrics feel like they were supposed to be empowering and cheeky but they’re really just uninteresting and, unsurprisingly, a re-worded version of “Fancy”.

Who knows, maybe that’s what Britney and Iggy were going for? For me, it just felt a little disappointing and frustrating because the potential these two ladies had together was something that was being talked about amongst pop music lovers for months! They may collaborate again on upcoming albums in the future but until then, we are left with “Fancy 2.0”!

Check out the song in the link below and let us know what you thought of it! Will you be switching radio stations when it comes on or is it your first summer jam for the year? We would love to hear from you!
