Wes Anderson is a writer/director known for many things: quirky characters, offbeat humor, interesting stories, and eccentricity. It’s worked for him with multiple awards, including multiple Oscar nominations in three different categories.
But perhaps what he is best known for is his film style.
With eye-catching colors, dated clothes, throwbacks to yesteryear, and a mix of bright and drab, the Anderson style is well known. To the point that even a non-film obsessive could look at a Wes Anderson film and know it’s by the same guy who did (insert another Wes Anderson film here).
Needless to say the Anderson-esque style is something people strive to copy or mimic. For instance, remember that parody of the X-Men as a Wes Anderson film? It mimicked the style of his movies perfectly.
So when a Milan cafe asked for Wes Anderson’s interior design help, the director gave it a makeover straight out of one of his movies. Bar Luce was designed by Anderson with the intention “to make it a bar I would want to spend my own non-fictional afternoons in”.
The bar opened on May 9th for those of you wanting to make a pligrimage to the place. And it definitely screams Anderson-esque from the vintage wallpaper (like in The Grand Budapest Hotel) to two pinball machines (one based on a short by Anderson, the other based on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou). It’s visually captivating, much like the director’s films, and a throwback to a day gone by.
I know I would like to spend an afternoon in such a place.
People have already taken to Instagram to post interior shots of the bar.
Bar Luce, again, is now opened. Anderson’s next directing/writing project is unknown, but he is a producer on She’s Funny That Way. That film will be released on August 21st of this year.
