Paloma Faith is bonkers in the best possible way so it’s a joy to learn that she is making her first foray into the world of TV acting by playing Tinkerbell in a new adaptation of J.M Barrie’s Peter Pan.

ITV will bring the drama to our screens and give it a new twist on the old original classic that we know and love. Stanley Tucci will star alongside Faith as Captain Hook with Breaking Bad’s Laura Fraser as Mrs Darling.

The roles of Peter and Wendy will be played by newcomers Zac Sutcliffe and Hazel Doupe, respectively.

The two-hour drama will begin in the present day, at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH holds the rights to Peter Pan as bequeathed by Barrie). 12-year-old Lucy Rose is awaiting surgery for a heart condition. As her mother reads to her, Lucy falls asleep with visions of Neverland dancing in her head. Her dream takes her to the Neverland of her imagination, where she meets Peter and her adventure begins.

The action will move back and forth between Neverland and the present day, dealing with the struggles Lucy faces on her medical journey as well as bringing all the perfect fantasy of Neverland to our screens.

“I’m delighted to be bringing JM Barrie’s classic story of Peter Pan to ITV,” Steve November, ITV’s director of drama said in a statement.

“This wonderful interpretation by Adrian Hodges is faithful to Barrie’s original, but adds a new and unexpected dimension that makes it feel as though we are hearing the story for the first time. We’re thrilled to have such a great cast on board to star in this exciting new drama.”

While there are endless Peter Pan adaptations out there, including movies, musicals and more, I find this one to be compelling before it’s even begun. Stanley Tucci is an amazing actor, and I love Paloma Faith. I really can’t wait to see what she will bring to the role of Tinkerbell.

Production is set to begin soon, with no release date set.
