Hello again, Disney lovers and welcome to the column where we take a look at some of Disney’s more minor characters and talk about why we love them. This week I decided to kill two birds with one stone (NOT literally), and look at Kevin and Dug from Up.

We all know Up is a brilliant film. It ruins most people with its opening montage, and there are many more fantastic moments, a lot of which involve Kevin and/ or Dug. Carl and Russell are also great, but without our feathered and furry friends, the film wouldn’t be the same at all.

Kevin is, apparently, the “Beast of Paradise Falls,” which is just laughable. He is also a she. When she meets with Carl and Russell, she is trying to find her way back to her chicks but they are unaware of this. She is also being hunted by the evil Charles Muntz, and I just adore the way Russell and Carl protect her so lovingly.

Kevin is unintentionally hilarious, and a lot of it stems from the animation of the character. Her facial expressions crack me up throughout the film and her delight at the end when she is reunited with her babies is just delightful. Kevin has great heart and humour and is a fantastic addition to the film.

Dug has gifted the world with some of the best catchphrases ever. Let’s take a look:

I could go on and on. Dug is simply adorable. He is always enthusiastic; a giant puppy who is eager and constantly aiming to please. This is the cause of many disgruntled murmurings from Carl, who professes to find Dug annoying when secretly we all know he loves him as much as we do.

I don’t like the way the other pack dogs treat Dug, and I am so excited for him when he meets with Russell, Carl and Kevin, the latter of whom is completely OTT about having another new friend. To be fair, if I found a friend like Dug I’d be excited about it too.

Let’s face it, these two characters are awesome, and have brought great joy to our screens.
