Now that all the lead roles have been cast, Disney are rounding out the Beauty and the Beast cast and even creating new roles!
Stanley Tucci is to join the movie, playing the part of Cadenza, the grand piano. He is described as “a neurotic maestro,” and I can already see Tucci being well suited to the role. Just one question though; how the hell is he going to play a piano?
I guess the answer would be in the same way Emma Thompson will become a teapot, or Sir Ian McKellan a clock, but somehow a grand piano seems a much harder object to portray on film. I do hope he will provide the music for the classic ballroom scene.
Is anyone else sighing over the perfection of this movie already? Tucci is a fine actor; I really enjoyed him in The Devil Wears Prada and Muppets Most Wanted. He’s also known for his role of Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games movies and has had roles in Captain America and Transformers: Age of Extinction.
He joins, as I said in a previous article, what has to be one of the best ensemble casts ever formed. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens take on the roles of Belle and the Beast for the remake of Disney’s 1991 animated classic.
This time around the film will be directed by Bill Condon and as well as using the original Alan Menken and Howard Ashman songs, new music is also being composed by Menken and Tim Rice (Ashman sadly died shortly before the original film was released). Could one of those songs have Tucci’s name on it? Let’s hope so.
A script read through has already started, as documented by McKellan, and apparently a sing-along also took place. I think that for me, the music is an integral part of this film and seeing all these renowned actors singing on screen is something I am really looking forward to.
Beauty and the Beast will be released in 2017.
