One Direction have given their first interview since they became a four-piece. The band, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, spoke to The Sun about life following the departure of Zayn Malik last month.
“It’s been a tough few weeks, probably the toughest since the band was formed five years ago”, said Liam. “We’re gutted that Zayn chose to leave, but now after a few performances as a four-piece, we’re feeling confident and are determined to carry on stronger than ever”.
Zayn returned home from the Asian leg of One Direction’s world tour due to stress; it was announced shortly thereafter that his break from the band was permanent. Whilst fans were still in shock with the news, British producer Naughty Boy calmly tweeted a demo he had recorded with Zayn on vocals, setting the Internet alight all over again. There’s been no more news of Zayn working on music, but it seems his former bandmates are definitely staying together. “All four of us are 100% committed to staying in One Direction, and we want to thank the fans for being so incredible during this time”, said Louis. “We have so much more we still want to achieve”, he continued. “Our gigs in South Africa were some of the biggest the country has ever seen, so it’s exciting for us to keep breaking records for British music worldwide”.
As well as touring, the lads have also started work on their fifth album. Liam tweeted that they were already working on the project – so much for their break before the tour resumes in early June.
Now in home I just wanna thank everyone for an amazing start to the tour now it’s album writing time then back to it! Wish us luck 😀

One Direction’s work schedule has often been criticised; they have produced four albums, toured four times, and had too many media appearances and performances to count. This is a lot to cram into the almost five short years since they were formed on The X Factor in 2010, especially as they were all still in their teens.
One Direction’s fans have (mostly) stayed firmly behind the lads during the past few weeks, and the band are certainly appreciative of their support. Harry, speaking of their new album, said “It shows how incredible the fans have been. A huge thank you to them for everything they’ve done for us. All the love to them”.
