Everyone is talking about the Avengers.
And why shouldn’t they? It’s definitely the most hotly anticipated movie of the summer. It’s the movie that I’m looking forward to.
The Avengers, however, aren’t the only superhero team coming back to theatres. The Fantastic Four’s reboot is also slated for release this coming summer. Kind of shocking right? I keep forgetting it’s going to be released summer 2015 until I’m reminded of it. Fox’s marketing department better get on the ball there.
And what was released today is a pretty good start.
Some promotional images from the film have been released for the upcoming reboot. The best one is of Jamie Bell in all of his Ben Grimm post-Thing glory.
Goddamn that looks a MILLION times better then the 2005 version of the character. I mean you can tell there is actual texture, he looks like he is made of rock. Kudos to whoever designed that because it looks amazing. I can’t wait to see him move on screen.
I know I sound like I’m gushing, and I am, because compare that image to this.
It’s not bad for the time, but it is of the time. Michael Chiklis, who played the character in the 2005 film, did his best, but, at times, I felt like this kind of hampered him. Jamie Bell’s just looks so much better and grounded in some kind of reality.
It’s kind of like comparing the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films to The Amazing Spider-Man films. Both of them were good, but one was more like a comic brought to life and the other was more grounded. It’s a preference thing.
I’m still waiting to get some better shots of Michael B. Jordan’s Human Torch though. I’m so excited for it. Two of my favorite actors, Jordan and Chris Evans, have both played the character.
We have gotten other images though. One of them is of the Four in an alternate dimension pre-gaining their powers. (In this version, rather then being altered by cosmic rays, they are altered by an accidental teleportation to a different dimension. Like it happens at the office.)
The other one is the requisite shirtless scene with Miles Teller (who plays Mr. Fantastic) strapped to a table of some sort. This is presumably after gaining his powers because if it is before gaining the powers, I have to question where he works.
Is it me or do Teller’s arms look really long? Although I do have to question the wisdom of tying a man with super stretching abilities to a table. That just seems to scream bad idea.
However, this is definitely making me excited for the movie. I do demand more of Kate Mara’s Sue Storm and Michael B. Jordan’s Johnny Storm. Immediately.
Fantastic Four comes out August 6th in the UK and August 7th in the US.
