What a way to celebrate Mister J’s 75th birthday!

Thank you David Ayer for tweeting out this first look of Jared Leto as the Joker from his new movie Suicide Squad.

To say I am freaking out would be a little bit of an understatement because my excitement for this movie just escalated to far beyond.

In the picture Leto is sporting the Joker’s iconic green hair, some silver capped teeth, and tattoos. It looks amazing.  This is a bit of an understatement, but there are not words I could use that would be appropriate to fully express what I am feeling when I saw this picture.

Let’s just say the pose in the picture perfectly sums up my reaction.

I think the tattoos add something that we haven’t before seen in a Joker portrayal on the screen. He is wearing his insanity on his skin. Between the “damaged” written on his forehead and all the “ha ha ha” on his chest and arms, it screams Joker, but it also adds something modern to this character because tattoos have become so much more prevalent in today’s society.

Then there is also the huge smiles that take up his left forearm and the back of his right hand. They are another iconic image to the Joker. Instead of giving him the wide smile actually on his lips like both Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger had, he is once again wearing them on his body.

Now it will be interesting how much, or at all, they will be shown. Typically the Joker is dressed in his purple suit, but we will have to wait longer for that.

Just like David Ayer’s last Joker teaser, this picture also pays an homage to writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland’s The Killing Joke.

Suicide Squad also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

The film will hit theaters August 5, 2016.
