Everything is awesome! Including this new info about the second Lego Movie.
During an interview at WonderCon, The Lego Movie producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord gave a few teasers about the sequel to their 2014 hit, including who will be back in the new installment.
So what did they reveal, exactly?
“It’s going to be…coming out in the future,” Lord joked. “Probably under 100 minutes. And directed by Rob Schrab.”
Miller jumped in on the joke. He also divulged that our favorite fun-loving Master Builder, as well as a certain spunky badass both will return for round two. He said, “Emmet and Wyldstyle will be back. And others. New characters, as well.”
If I am being completely honest, The Lego Movie was one of my favorite movies of 2014. When it was announced that the directors planned to produce a second film, I was super jazzed. While we have no formal confirmation that Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks will lend their voices to these lovable characters for a second time, but I have faith that they will return.
Now that Emmet and the others have saved their universe from President Business (Will Ferrell), what will happen to them? Miller assured fans that new adventures are in store for the crew.
“We want to keep it mostly a surprise,” Miller said. “But we found a new way to talk about new things and not just retread the stuff that we did in the first movie. [We will] still make it true to the way kids play and the way people experience Legos.”
Lord added to the sentiment. He said that although the second film will pick up where the first left off, it will be an entirely new story line. Lord also added, “The idea is to make these movies feel like a fresh approach to the material and not just a continuation of the first movie. So I think we’ve succeeded in figuring out how The Lego Movie 2 will feel very different from The Lego Movie.”
The only bad part about all of this is that fans will have to wait another three years to see these ideas come to fruition, as the film has been given a release date of May 18, 2018. Never worry, though. We have the Batman spinoff to look forward to in February of 2017. In the film, Batman will be “pushed out of his comfort zone,” according to Miller.
Yay!!! I’m so looking forward to these new movies, especially The Lego Movie 2. Who are you most looking forward to seeing back: Emmet, Wyldstyle, Batman, or someone else we did not mention? Let us know in the comments section!
