Zayn Malik’s Naughty Boy Produced Solo Song “I Won’t Mind” Leaked

One Direction fans are still coping with the news that Zayn Malik has left the band, and it seems he’s wasted no time in getting his solo career on track.

Despite assurances that he was the leaving the biggest band in the world to be a “normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight” Zayn has apparently been in the studio recording with DJ/producer Naughty Boy. A demo of their collaboration, “I Won’t Mind”, was released on Twitter yesterday and it left the One Direction fandom pretty much stunned.

The song is beautiful; Zayn has got a unique, soulful voice with an edge and when accompanied by an acoustic guitar, and the result is musical bliss. Naughty Boy tweeted the SoundCloud recording with the words “let the music do the talking”.

The SoundCloud link was later removed, but the song remains on YouTube.

According to MailOnline, a representative of Naughty Boy said; “Naughty Boy and Zayn wrote and demoed it [“I Won’t Mind”] as a contender for 1D’s album last year…they aren’t furiously working on his solo material or anything, there aren’t plans for anything and this wasn’t recorded in the last few days. They are very good friends and Zayn is taking time out including visiting Naughty Boy at his studio and hanging out.”

So was it an old demo or a sneaky taste of new music to come? Another song that Zayn and Naughty Boy worked on for One Direction’s latest album Four, “One Chance To Dance”, wasn’t included in the final cut. This was a decision which reportedly left Zayn upset.

Naughty Boy is famous for working with some of the most talented singers around, including Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sandé.

My favourite song of his is “La La La” featuring the wonderful Sam Smith. It is expected that Zayn will pursue a solo career (although maybe not so soon after leaving the group) and Naughty Boy would be a great collaborator for him; however former bandmate Louis Tomlinson doesn’t think much of the producer, as we can see from the rather lively discussion the two had on Twitter last night.

One Direction are currently in the middle of a seven-month worldwide stadium tour – they are playing the sold-out Cape Town Stadium on April 1 – and the band and the fans seem to be coping with Zayn’s absence fairly well … for the most part anyway.

I wish only the best for Zayn in his solo career (as much as I would like him back in 1D, it just isn’t going to happen). I hope that whenever his own music comes out that 1D fans support him. There may be only four lads in One Direction now, but as Liam Payne tweeted “I’m super sure us and zayn will always remain the closest friends”.

For the sake of the five lads – and the 1D fandom –  I really hope it stays that way.
