It appears that we can’t get enough of mama Ru and her queens, as the Logo TV show Rupaul’s Drag Race has been confirmed for an 8th season following its continued success.

Currently on its 7th season, which is airing at the moment in America, the drag queen elimination show is out to find America’s next drag superstar, with the lucky queen winning a cash prize, along with other goodies. The premiere of the current season received a 20% year-on-year increase in the 18-49 demographic according to Digital Spy which proves just how popular the show is getting, especially when it’s been going since 2009.

MTV2 and Logo TV general manager, Chris McCarthy, told The Wrap: “It’s kind of amazing to see how each season RuPaul’s Drag Race continues to build and the audience refreshes. The passion and the fandom for it is quite outstanding…The audience continues to build and the demand for it and the content is so great, why not take advantage of all that energy right now?”

Auditions are already up and running for the next season which is very exciting, although slightly overwhelming when season 7 isn’t even half way through its episodes yet, and we’re already having to think about the season beyond that. With mixed views on what we’ve already seen from season 7, with such a solid fan base, I hope that season 8 won’t try to undertake too many changes. A programme needs to accommodate for its growth, however it’s the traditional elements that have been bringing fans back for more.
