Just a few days ago, Connie Britton said that she would love to return to American Horror Story. “I would love to come back, but scheduling is tricky”, Britton told Variety. And now we know that it’s not only her role as Rayna Jaymes on Nashville that would make a return to Horror Story quite difficult.

This morning AHS-creator and all-round talent Ryan Murphy announced that Connie Britton would be joining his new show American Crime Story. So while she is not checking into the Hotel (American Horror Story’s 4th season) along with Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson and Wes Bentley (whoa what a cast, I know), she will return to work with Murphy.

American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson will span 10 episodes and tell the true story of the OJ Simpson murder trial, in which the NFL star was accused of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson. Connie Britton is set to portray Faye Resnick, a socialite and friend of the victim.

TVLine offers some more information on Faye’s role in the trial: “Resnick penned a controversial memoir about her friendship with Nicole that temporarily halted the trial. In the book, Nicole Brown Simpson: The Private Diary of a Life Interrupted, she expressed her belief that her friend was murdered by her hubby O.J. Simpson. Her most recent claim to fame was a recurring role on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” She sounds like a darling. And just by shallowly judging the casting by looks, Murphy did a great job. At least these ladies look somewhat alike (it’s mostly the hair, but let’s be honest Britton’s hair is everything good in this world). I also don’t doubt that Connie Britton can pull off any character she sets her mind on. You might as well call her chameleon.

Britton joins AHS-co-star Sarah Paulson (as Marcia Clarke, the lead prosecutor in the trial), John Travolta, Friends-icon David Schwimmer and Courtney B. Vance as Robert Shapiro, Robert Kardashian and Johnnie Cochran form part of OJ’s legal defense team while and Cuba Gooding Jr. will play the culprit himself.
