One of the many things we love about the upcoming Avengers sequel is the addition of new members to the team: Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and the Vision. There’s some weird secrecy going on with the Vision but thankfully, we’ve gotten the chance to see a lot of the Maximoff twins.
In the latest Age of Ultron teaser, we are introduced to Pietro and Wanda Maximoff aka Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. The video is one minute and a bit longer and has our geek Lord Joss Whedon as well as Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson introducing us to these new characters.
“In this film, I’m introducing massively important new characters: Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Quicksilver is very fast, as fast or almost as fast as a bullet. And then Scarlet Witch, she got telekinesis, she can move things and she can get inside your heads so that all your worst fears or doubts come forth”, Whedon explains.
In comicverse, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Magneto’s children. Her powers are reality warping, telekinesis and probability manipulation via her “hexes”, often manifested physically as “hex spheres” or “hex bolts”. Quicksilver cannot only move at superhuman speed but can also think super incredibly fast. They make one hell of a team; it’s understandable why they will be a pain to the Avengers at some point.
Of course, their origin will be different in Age of Ultron: instead of mutants, it looks like they will be the product of experimentation from Baron Von Strucker and Loki’s staff. The sceptre fell into Strucker’s power and now he is experimenting on it to unlock powers in his test subjects, two of which are Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.
“What’s interesting to me is how connected she is and how grounded she is with the universe. She messes with all of the Avengers to such an extent that they have to go somewhere and come back as a unit”, Olsen explains about her character.
Honestly, the Maximoffs and Vision are the top reasons why I am so excited and anxious to see this movie!
Avengers:Age of Ultron will be released on April 23rd in the UK and May 1st in the US.
