You know you have succeeded as a horror filmmaker when you manage to frighten the king of horror, Stephen King. That’s exactly what happened with Guillermo del Toro and his new film Crimson Peak.

Stephen King shared his views on del Toro’s movie on his Twitter account, calling it “terrifying”.

He even went on to compare its impact to Sam Rami’s now-classic horror film Evil Dead. That’s an interesting comparison!

But the praise didn’t stop there.

Horror writer Joe Hill, author of Heart-Shape Box and son of the master himself, Stephen King, also took to Twitter to share his feelings on del Toro’s new horror child.

So, Stephen King and Joe Hill say Crimson Peak is truly terrifying and its impact can be measured on an Evil Dead level. It can’t get any better than that! I mean, I am sure I’m not the only one who has a phobia or two sparked by Stephen King’s imagination (hello, clowns), so anything that can make him jump should be considered and respected.

Crimson Peak marks Guillermo del Toro’s return to the horror genre after having done a bit of science fiction (Pacific Rim) and exploring the world of supernatural superheroes (Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army). It follows a young author, Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska), living in a crumbling mansion in the north of England in the 19th century, who discovers there’s something strange with her new husband, Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston).

Jessica Chastain plays Lady Lucille Sharpe, Sir Thomas’ sister; Charlie Hunnam’s character is Dr. Alan McMichael, a “quiet, thoughtful kind of stoic” man who is in love with the female hero of the story. Doug Jones, Jim Beaver and Leslie Hope are also part of the cast.

Guillermo knows his way through the horror genre; did you know he began his cinematic career as an fx makeup artist with his own company, Necropia? And did you know his first movie Cronos won the Critics Prize of Cannes back in 1993? It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he has managed to scare Stephen King, but it still makes me jump out of happiness.

I mean, the trailer alone gave us goosebumps! Can you imagine how the whole movie is going to be?! I can’t wait to watch it!

Crimson Peak will come to scare us and possibly give us nightmares on October 16.

I am so proud of you, Guillermo!
