Have you heard a deafening chorus of “yaaaaaaas” recently? That was Rihanna’s Navy reacting to her performance of her brand new single, “Bitch Better Have My Money” from her upcoming album at the iHeart Radio Music Awards!
We had a listen to the track. Now, we would like to share our breakdown of the song with you.
After stripping back her sound entirely in her recent collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney in “FourFiveSeconds”, it seems Rihanna is back to her instantly recognizable sound with her latest work. “Bitch Better Have My Money” is a powerful, hip-hop track that doesn’t hold back in any way.
We’ve heard Rihanna incorporate this kind of sound in her music before after her iconic good-girl-gone-bad transition. We feel she is taking it up a notch with this powerful lady anthem about being very rich and very demanding. Ri-Ri carries off her gangster persona so well and we are loving it!From a more musical perspective, the song doesn’t feature any particularly ground-breaking rhythmical features in terms of trap or hip-hop but it does feature some awesome beats and snare hits. There’s not much melodic exploration in the song either, but it sounds like it’s going to be such a great song to chant on Rihanna’s next tour. It is perfect if you like how Rihanna has sounded in recent years. It’s also great if you want to hear her go that extra mile.
What I find most interesting about the song is that it clearly won’t be getting an awful lot of peak-time radio play. On top of the title containing the word “bitch”, examples of much more offensive language can be found within the songs lyrics. This means it either won’t get played on radio, or there is going to be a lot of muting and bleeping. Either way, we love this new track from our favourite Barbadian beauty and we cannot wait to hear the rest of her new album!
All we know about Rihanna’s 8th studio album is that it is being promoted as “#R8”. It will be produced by the likes of Kanye West, David Guetta, DJ Mustard and Nicky Romero. We are ready for you Ri-Ri!
What do you think of “Bitch Better Have My Money”? Do you love the direction she’s taking her next album or would you like to hear something different from Rihanna?
