Hotel Transylvania was one of my favorite animated movies of 2012. Sure, it was no ParaNorman (my favorite movie of 2012), but it was still a cute and fun romp with monsters that I’ve grown fond of over the years. And I can pretty much say that this is like one of two movies that I liked Adam Sandler in. (If you’re curious the other one is Reign Over Me, which made me bawl my eyes out.)
When I heard that Hotel Transylvania was getting a sequel, I was (and still am) really excited about it. I still love the story, the animation, and especially all of the gags from the first film. The sequel, which will add Mel Brooks to the cast, makes me even more excited.
For those of you who have seen the movie, let me refresh you where the story left off. Dracula has gotten over his prejudice/fear of humans, as had most of the monsters. Mavis (Selena Gomez), his daughter, and human Johnny (Andy Samberg) have gone off to see the world and explore their relationship together.
According to Digital Spy, the sequel has had Dracula allow human guests in the former monsters only hotel.
While new parents Mavis and Johnny are away, Grandpa Drac gets to babysit his half human/half vampire grandson by putting the little guy through monster bootcamp as seen in the teaser trailer. Now I don’t know about your grandparents, but mine didn’t push me into the pool hoping I would swim without a lesson.
But Grandpa Drac is a few hundred years old, so way different generational gap.
The gap apparently gets even bigger when Dracula’s father Vlad (Mel Brooks) comes for an unexpected visit.
Watch the trailer below! Johnny and Mavis’ kid is absolute adorable! Look at those curls.
Hotel Transylvania 2 will be released in the US on September 25th and in the UK October 9th.
