Back in January, we shared with you that The Fault in Our Stars lead Ansel Elgort was in talks to star in Edgar Wright’s new movie Baby Driver.

Today we can confirm that indeed, Ansel Elgort will take the lead!

Baby Driver follows Baby (yeah, I know), a music obsessed, quiet young man who works as the driver for a rotating group of bank robbers and finds himself on the run when things get a bit tough. It has been previously described as a “collision of crime, action, music and sound.” This sounds very Edgar Wright. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the sound on Hot Fuzz and the music on Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Edgar will write and direct Baby Driver, which will see a 50/50 financing split between MRC and TriStar, with the latter handling worldwide distribution. Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan from Working Title will be producing along with Nira Park from Big Talk Productions.

It’s not the first time Edgar worked with Working Title. Fellner, Bevan, and Park produced the third installment of Edgar’s “Cornetto trilogy”, The World’s End.

Edgar Wright has shown his filmmaking mastery with the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End) and the adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs The World. He also directed the British sitcom Spaced, starring Jessica Haynes, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

While I would love to see the Wright-Pegg-Frost combo on the big screen once more, I also want to see what Edgar has been preparing all this time. Baby Driver sounds quite entertaining so far; plus, Edgar’s comedy style is one of the most precious things in the world. Trust me on that.

Ansel Elgort is currently working on the Divergent series, with the third film Allegiant currently in pre-production. According to Variety, Elgort had to work out his schedule before he officially signed for Baby Driver.

There’s no release date yet, but we will keep you posted on everything related to Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver!
